Madison

Madison will be exiting the public school system in June of 2020. She has been on the Innovations Waiver wait list for 5 1/2 years. I plan to enroll Madison in a day program but I will have to pay out of pocket since she does not have the Waiver. One of the programs I am looking at costs $84 per day.

Also, the day programs I have been looking at end at 2:30 so I am trying to think of creative ways to piece together family, friends and a helper I will pay so I can continue to work. Madison cannot stay home alone. I think Madison would enjoy learning how to play the piano, take swim lessons, do some volunteer work and maybe even get a part time job. If she had the Waiver then a support person could be employed to get her to all of these opportunities and her life would be more well rounded. Instead, I will be using savings to pay for a day program and Madison will be missing out on these possibilities. It is exhausting to think about the years ahead.

Madison, thank you and your mother for attending our 2Long2Wait Rally in Winston-Salem and sharing the difficulties you both face without the Innovations Waiver.
